Tax businesses more and the cost gets passed through to the consumer. Simple, basic economics.

Also, lots of idiots that know nothing about what they speak, like to blah about the "rich" paying more taxes. They don't even know what they're complaining about. What they're actually attempting to grasp is the concept of the 15% capital gains tax applied to returns on investment. Sure, we can raise it across the board but, that's going to punish the average guy who sells a bit of property for a little profit, or who manages to reap a little benefit off of his institutional investments, etc.

And sure, the middle class drives the consumer end of the economy. There's not doubt. However, increase business tax and that very sector so many claim to be concerned about, will see their cost of living increase and their buying power drop.

Want to help things? Start with income tax reform and then concentrate on making it attractive for businesses to open, develop and stay in the US. Levy massive import taxes/tarrif's on good from other countries (China), which will halt their currency manipulation and level the playing field for America. Taxing the crap out of your wealthy and corporations isn't going to do anything but make life more expensive for the very people some say they're so concerned with.

Simple fact, Romney paid an effective tax rate of 13.9 percent in 2010, it is that simple.  Now one mentioned Taxing the crap out of your wealthy and corporations, a raise in taxes for a few does not mean your taxing the crap out of them.  It's not like their taxes will jump 30% or more we are talking a relative few percentage points.

He didn't evade tax. He paid his legal share. He makes his money off of investments. Like I said, go ahead and increase the tax rate on investment returns. I'm sure everyone will love it when they go to collect on thier institutional investments, 401k's, etc...

When I talked about Reagan era supply side economics I am talking about the deficit side.  The deficit went up under Reagan, if the supply side economics worked there should have been no deficit but that was not the case and it is the same with the Bush tax policy.  Cut taxes, create jobs, more workers on payroll and more tax money coming in but again it did not and has not ever worked.  You can talk all day about "your" degree in economics but I am talking cold hard facts.  The only thing the Bush tax cuts did was make the rich richer, make corporations richer and make corporate officers richer all the while the deficit was sky rocketing and we were shedding 750,000 jobs a month when Bush left office.  These are irrefutable facts that any argument you make cannot dispute.

It is simple really for me, all I want is for the gov't to pay for it's own way and not pass the buck to future generations, I have been saying this for years, during the Bush regime and I will say it now.  We  need to cut back across the board (including the military and I don't mean the 1.6% currently in the works) and we need to raise taxes ever so slightly to pay the bills.  All I want to do is pay the bills and not pass them down.  the republicans have proved they can't and won't do it, they will muddy the waters and try to distract with other idiotic arguments like Sylandra instead of taking action.

Your comment that you don't want to pass the buck to future generations is the epitome of hypocrisy. No president has done more to not only actually increase the federal deficit, but to ensure it will continue to grow, than Obama.

And, Reagan's deficit increase was necessitated by the history of failure (three recessions) prior to taking office. The economy was in far worse shape than when Obama took office yet, Obama's added more (even at the margin) in three years than Reagan did in two terms. Also, his deficit additions were more than offset by his growth in all other sectors.

The time for blaming Bush has long since passed. Especially when you look at him compared to Reagan. None of Obama's policies are working. He's shrinking the economy, adding to the deficit at a record pace, reducing spending power and making sure the buck gets passed to future generations. The Solyndra fiasco is a prime example of what's wrong with Obama and his polices. It's not idiotic. Rather, it's indicative of the total lack of judgment the current administration puts into spending our money.

Raise taxes? Sure. Not a problem. But, do it across the board in a sensible way. That means start collecting from those who are paying nothing at all. In addition, you have to cut and revamp the massive entitlment mindset and programs that go along with them.

Wake up. It's Obama that's passing the buck. Not the republicans. There's your facts. Maybe a degree in economics would help more people understand the obvious.

Matt, you forgot to mention all the bailout money Bush threw around before he left office! So realistically if McCain was elected he would of follow the same trend as Bush by giving bailouts too. Both parties are so lobbied by the same companies they pretty much do the same things.
So until theres a campaign finance reform bill passed theres really no chance of any change coming for a long time!  ;

Erik, I don't disagree with you at all. Both parties can claim their fair share of blame.

However, I'd go a step further and say that, not only do we need campaign finance reform but, we need term limits for the house and senate.

In all reality, it's probably the same group of people that just goes by two different names to make the people believe somebody is working for them in Washington.  If agendas were truly drawn along party lines, every time a majority was reached, every piece of legislation that opposed the ruling viewpoint would be repealed.  Republicans never repealed Social Security, never repealed expansion of welfare using Social Security funds, never repealed using Social Security funds in the General Fund; they're just as guilty as the Democrats.  And that's just one example.  Obamacare will never be repealed.  Tort reform will never happen (duh!).  Meaningful tax reform will never happen; just a more expensive replacement for what we already have.  Bureaucracy will never diminish (e.g. eliminate Departments of Labor, Education, Commerce or the EPA).  Maybe I'm just getting to be a grouchy old man but every year the crap just keeps getting laid down deeper and deeper, regardless of which party is in office, and the only ones benefitting are the entitlement recipients and the elitists cramming this down our collective throats.   Angry  I think I'll go have a beer.   Wink

Clapper Clapper Clapper Clapper Clapper Bow Bow Bow   I have said this before & feel the same way.  We need term limits across the board.  Until we get rid of the corrupt career politicians that BIG MONEY has crawled into their heads & pockets, it doesn't matter who is president. REP. or DEM. or IND.!!!!   It will not get better only worse!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also need to put limitations on lobbyists!!!!

Diggin you are spot on also!!!!  The beer is a good idea toooo, but i'm gonna add a few shots of Crown!!! Grin

Yea, who cares about the environment when we will all be living on the moon in about 8 yrs according to Newt and who cares about labor laws, kids should be working once they are pottie trained according to Newt (also).  We don't need no stinkin clean air or clean water, I am sure the corporations will jump in and save us with those things.  Don't worry about chemical dumps, nuclear accidents or oil spills they will never happen, the corporations won't let them happen because remember corporations are people too, so those "people" would never do that.
