26  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Canaveral Groves on: January 22, 2017, 04:23:24 PM
Yesterday the Brevard County Deputies told us that we could no longer park in that little park that has that little lake on it. First they said that we could park on the other side of the canal at our own risk, but we went to Pine St instead. Later we came by on our ATVs and they had that side of the canal blocked off too.

They said the people living around there were complaining about the area getting all torn up. The other big complaint was people shooting out there. They said bullets were hitting over at the dog park next door.

I hope that this doesn't end up like 5A did. We better enjoy it while we can.

Larry

That's great news Kris !!!  I can't wait for the dozer work to begin ! Once the blind turns are taken out, June and I will start to go up a lot more. Larry

I agree with asmart82. I drive an ATV and my tires would probably be considered aggressive. If I couldn't attend with these tires, then I wouldn't go.

What is the problem here?  Is the land owner complaining about the property getting dug up or what?
29  General / Open Discussion / Re: No more side by sides..... on: December 05, 2016, 04:50:04 PM
Banning side by sides would probably make me want to come more. I agree, it's the drivers that are the problem, but they will never change and if you run into one of them, it's almost like hitting a car. It's only a matter of time till somebody's going to get really hurt bad. Larry
30  General / Where to Ride? / Re: 2016 Centennial Trail - Ocala National Forest on: December 05, 2016, 04:41:44 PM
Thanks Kris !  June and I were thinking of coming up on Wednesday, but now we will go to the north trails. Larry

You should be OK. Larry
32  General / Where to Ride? / The Compound -----Palm Bay on: November 18, 2016, 07:31:00 PM
Just saw on Channel 9 news tonight that they're trying to close the Compound down. They're putting up concrete barriers and the Palm Bay police are going to be out there for the next two weekends. I only ever rode the two times, but I did enjoy it. Larry
33  General / Open Discussion / Re: 5a closed on: November 09, 2016, 06:52:05 PM
It's really closed !!!   They fenced the 5A parking lot off and I guess you need to be a land owner to get a key to the gate. The parking lot has " no parking any time" signs posted on both sides. I'm not real sure what is going on at Maytown Road, but I heard there are signs posted there also. Larry
34  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Best trail in ocala to take my 11 year old on: October 30, 2016, 01:29:50 PM
I agree, that would probably be the best trail for an 11 year old. I've only rode it once so I don't know a lot about it. I was told that during hunting season that the hunters there are a meaner group. I don't know if that's true--just what I've heard. Larry
35  General / Where to Ride? / Re: Canaveral Groves on: October 30, 2016, 01:24:29 PM
I went riding at Canaveral Groves yesterday and it is still open. I don't know who starts these rumors. Larry

No problem Kris ! I'm just so grateful for you and John cutting out all of the trees that you have so far. Now that it's starting to cool off a little, June and I will be riding there a lot more. Maybe next week some day. We pretty much took the summer off because of the heat.  Larry

I just called John and he said you can ride the middle and bottom scrub jays on the centennial trail, but you have to be very careful as there are still stumps, roots and some trees extending out onto the trails. You really need to park at the campground. If you park at the trail head, you may not make it down cause of downed trees. He said that they haven't even looked at that part of the trail yet and he and Kris have taken out around 100 trees so far.

I asked him about the north trails and he said they haven't even started to remove trees up there yet.

He said that if anybody rides, to be very careful. There are lots of dangerous places on the trail.

It would probably be safer to wait another week or two. Larry

Here's what I posted on another thread 6 days ago:

"I just got off of the phone with John and he said that the parks are closed right now till further notice. They closed them for the hurricane and made them leave for the west coast of Florida. They're back now and took their dog for a short walk and saw five trees down just in that small area. I would call the parks dept before going up there. Larry"

I don't know if they reopened the trails or not, but I can guarantee you that there will still be trees down all  over the place. Good luck !  Larry

I'm about three miles east of I-95 and thank God we made it thru OK. Just got power back on at 4:35 AM this morning. We were lucky, only out for 25 hours. Larry

44  General / Where to Ride? / Canaveral Groves on: September 09, 2016, 08:37:27 PM
When they closed 5A down, I started to ride here once in a while. I haven't been there in a few weeks, but someone told me that now it's closed. Anybody know if that's true? I find that hard to believe since we had a clean up day out there about 6 or 7 weeks ago.

Trust me, you meet much better people in a membership park like this than at a place like 5A...

Hey! Wait a minute !  Didn't you meet me at 5A Huh    LOL

After an eight week break from the ONF, my wife and I went to the Centennial Trail yesterday. We got a new Can Am Max 650 2 up, so now we can legally ride double on the trails.

The trails need a lot of trimming, but I'm happy to report that on the west side some bulldozing has been done. The area is really rough because it hasn't been dragged yet, but you can now really see ahead in this area. Some people have mentioned one way trails, but if they clear the whole trails like this, two way traffic will not be a problem. If you can see others coming, you will have time to react even if these others are speeding.

Thanks to Kris for getting this done !!!  I know that sometimes we give you a bunch of crap over this, but we love riding the trails and just want to be safe. Both my wife and I have been in head on accidents there and they were with other ATVs and dirt bikes. I don't know how we would come out if we  had a head on with a side by side and there are more of them coming there all of the time. As we were leaving yesterday, they were unloading the biggest S X S that I've ever seen. If you ran into it, it would be as if you hit a car.

Thanks again Kris for all that you do.

Larry & June

I don't know who you would call. I couldn't call anybody as my phone doesn't work up there, only 911.

Was this truck on a trail that he was allowed to be on ? Most of those trails are for atv's and side by sides only. If he was on a trail that he wasn't supposed to be on, I would just tell him to have another beer and leave him there. These are the people that tear up our trails and they don't even pay any money to be on the trails. It's better that if they're drunk that they remain in the woods rather than out on the highways where they can kill somebody.  Even though I feel this way, I would let a ranger know about them being stuck if I ran across one.
48  General / Where to Ride? / Re: 5A Closed on: July 04, 2016, 12:26:22 PM
I have not seen this with my own eyes, but three people have told me that "No Trespassing" signs are now posted up at Maytown Road.  Larry
49  General / Where to Ride? / Re: 5A Closed on: June 30, 2016, 08:22:15 PM
Just went by the 5A parking lot and boy have they been busy!

They put up a fence the whole way along there, the "No Trespassing" signs are still there, and they put up "No parking any time" signs on both sides of the parking lot. I guess that they're serious about this. LOL   All of you people that told me that they will never closed 5A down---I guess you're wrong.

I've heard that they're still riding from the Maytown Road parking lot. Just can't park along Maytown Road or you may get towed.

John told me that you were going to be gone for 5 weeks. He also was the one that told me the trail was going to be closed for 2 weeks a while back. Both of those statements are wrong. Sorry ! I guess I better not listen to him anymore.

I thank you for the update on the trail. It would be nice to get updated every 2 weeks or so.
